It’s something of a cliché from me at this point, but sorry for the radio silence, kittens. Without going into details about information that isn’t mine to share, there was some background family stuff in the States, and an absolutely mental summer with work. Anyone who follows UK politics and business news will know how bonkers life here has been of late - political shenanigans, business shenanigans, travel and other industry shenanigans - all of which has made my work life a lot more demanding and complex.
And on top of all of this, we decided to move at the end of August after three years in our last apartment, adding an additional long list of To Dos to my spiralling brain calendar. Then I had some health stuff which I’m also not going into.
So…I took an extended break, after admittedly half-assing the first half of the year anyway.
But blogging is something I’ve been keeping up for the better part of twenty years now and I’m not about to let it wither on the vine. I want to do more opinion and hell, maybe even through in some pop culture for good measure. I need to put my thoughts about The Rings of Power somewhere and financial-trauma-dump about the economy that is not my long-suffering husband.
So, to atone, here is is a gobsmacking amount of links to say sorry for being a bad internet aunt, and I promise not to forget your birthday next year.
I have never felt so seen! Summer is atrocious. Long live cold. Fight me.
*in her best Lady Whistledown voice, “Dearest gentle reader, the history of the Season is more than just rakes, ruffians, and marriage-minded misses.”
Mick Lynch is making headlines here in the UK for his pretty decent countering of less-than-informed and bad faith media queries about summer strike actions. I liked this interview with him where he cuts through a lot of bullshit that unions face when their strikes inconvenience people…ya know…like they are designed to. Absent riots, how exactly ARE people supposed to organise for change if all other avenues of negotiation have been removed or exhausted?
Oh look, just media and misogyny festering into fascism. Again. And again.
Not a word of a lie, I thought Jeff was choking or in pain in the next room when what was happening was that he was wheezing and crying because of this:
Next week is Fat Bear Week, prepare to celebrate appropriately!
The Bitcoin/crypto breakdown has been excruciating to watch in its predictability. It’s just all so ridiculous.
This past summer in Mormon News…was grim.
Just my alma mater, making my degree less valuable by the day.
The summer news about the rollback of abortion rights has left many, including me, reeling. Not surprised but still shocked. This piece from Annie Lowrey cut straight to the heart of the matter and I am still thinking about it month onward.
The abortion fights make the future possibilities of technology both thrilling and of law, complex.
As an avid connoisseur of lipstick, the lipstick-as-economic-barometer theory has always appealed to me.
Hustle culture is killing us all, a composite links batch. Part 1. Part 2. Part 3.
Basically, it was a wild summer. The men have been disappointing, the economy has been threatening, and the totalitarians gaining on us. Buckle up for the resistance, babes, and stay hydrated.
